Empty Bowls was begun at a high school in Michigan in 1990. Students made bowls and soup, and had a sale with the proceeds going to a local food bank. Empty Bowls is now an international event coordinated by potters to raise awareness of world hunger, raise as much money as possible for local food banks and soup kitchens, and to create lasting social change through the arts. The Potters’ Guild of Las Cruces began Empty Bowls in 1993 and was the first in New Mexico. 100% of the proceeds from this auction go to our local soup kitchen, El Caldito.
