VC Jemez Miniature Polychrome Seed Pot Beads, Set of 4
A set of four hand-sculpted and painted miniatures from Jemez Pueblo, each signed VC Jemez on the underside. Three take a rounded seed-pot form and one a small tapered jar; all are drilled through as beads. The painted decoration works in the classic Jemez palette — matte black and terracotta red over a cream slip, with a red lower band divided by a black framing line. Motifs range across stylized bird and feather elements, a diamond-and-line device, and a small flowerhead, each freehanded onto a surface barely wider than a fingertip.
Work at this scale is a demonstration of control — the potter's hand slowing the brush to keep line weight even across a curve that fits inside a quarter's diameter. Jemez has produced painted pottery continuously since the late 19th century, and diminutive pieces like these carry the same design vocabulary as full-size ollas and seed jars in a form that reads as sculpture, ornament, or bead alike.
CONDITION
Good to Fair overall. Finish wear and light shelf wear throughout, with some chipped paint and minor imperfections consistent with handling. All four remain sound; please review all photos for condition and details.
