Trent D. Warden Copper Pueblo Pots & Feather Wall Sculpture, 1999
A multi-panel torched and repoussé copper wall sculpture by Trent D. Warden for Great River Co., dated 1999 — composed of four interlocking copper forms rendered as Pueblo storage jars, each decorated with bold zigzag and chevron patterning in applied verdigris patina against warm bare copper. The geometric motif draws directly from the pottery traditions of the Ancestral Puebloans, translated here into hammered metal with brass-edged borders outlining each form. A cluster of stylized copper feathers, also brass-edged, extends from the largest vessel at upper left, hung with a short leather cord strung with turquoise and wood beads — a detail that reinforces the cultural reference without overstating it.
The technique is straightforward but labor-intensive: each panel is hand-shaped, the surface worked with heat to produce the brilliant warm copper tone on the face, while the verso shows the full iridescent range of torch coloration — violet, gold, red, and green — characteristic of flame-finished copper. The four panels are joined on the back with wire hardware for a single hang point. The scale, at nearly 28 inches wide, makes this a commanding wall piece suited to a foyer, living room, or gallery setting. Signed in marker on the verso: Trent D. Warden / Great River Co. / 1999.
CONDITION
Good. No structural damage; all four panels hang together as intended. Surface verdigris and patina are consistent with age and intentional finishing. Minor scuffs and light surface oxidation to the verso.
