Folk Art Welded Steel Porcupine Sculpture with Splayed Quills
A charismatic folk-art figure hand-built from salvaged and forged steel, with dozens of long, tapering rod quills fanned dramatically across the back. The rounded body is assembled from riveted and welded plate carrying a mottled patina of oxidized blues, greens, and rich rust; each quill anchors to a welded rosette that reads as spotted markings across the flanks. The expressive head — with pierced nostrils, cut eyes, and a serrated ruff of raised triangular spines — tips downward on splayed, clawed feet cut from flat stock. Unsigned; studio or artisan origin unattributed.
Irregular welds, hammered plate, and hand-cut detailing give the piece real animated presence from every angle, the arced quills catching light along their forged tips.
CONDITION
Good and structurally solid. Heavy surface rust and oxidation throughout; quills remain firmly seated and the body holds its form. Rustic by design.
