Folk Art Welded Steel Wild Boar Sculpture with Bristles & Tusks
A life-sized wild boar built from riveted and welded sheet steel, with an animated stance and a maker's clear affection for the subject. The body is formed from curved plates that give the animal a rounded, barrel-chested bulk, while cut-steel details bring the creature to life: upright triangular ears, a heavy snout with punched nostrils, curved tusks flanking the mouth, and a slitted, lashed eye scored into the plate on each side. Bundled steel rods stand in for the coarse bristles running along the spine and sprout as a spiky tail at the rear.
The surface has weathered to a uniform russet oxidation, the kind that comes from time spent outdoors, and the incised shoulder and haunch lines lend the flat panels a sense of musculature. Assembled from steel panels with visible fasteners and hand-cut edges, it reads as a one-off studio piece rather than a production casting — an accessible bit of yard sculpture with genuine presence.
CONDITION
Very Good with age-appropriate wear. Scratched surfaces, fading, and rust/oxidation throughout consistent with outdoor use; no broken welds. Some open seams and gaps at the panel joins are part of the fabricated construction rather than damage.
