Louis XV Style Carved Walnut Bookmatched Occasional Table with Finial Stretcher
A Louis XV taste occasional table built on a serpentine, scalloped-edge top laid up in a four-way bookmatched veneer that opens into a soft pinwheel of figured grain. The shaped apron is deeply carved and pierced with rococo scrollwork and acanthus, centered on a small cartouche at each face, over four cabriole legs headed by carved leaf sprigs and finishing in scrolled feet.
The legs are tied by a serpentine cross stretcher that dips to a central turned finial — the detail that lifts this above a plain parlor stand. Construction is solid wood with veneers throughout; the piece carries no maker's mark. A chalk inventory number appears on the underside. It reads as a mid-century interpretation of an 18th-century French form, sized as a lamp or drinks table.
CONDITION
Good with stains and signs of use, and evidence of past restoration. The top shows a dark ring stain and scattered surface marks; edge and apron finish carry handling wear. Joinery is sound.
