Ornate Gilt Wood & Plaster Picture Frame, Rococo Revival, 9¼" Opening
A square Rococo Revival frame in carved wood and molded plaster gilt, built up with deep acanthus-scroll corners, a beaded inner course, and a foliate cartouche centered on each rail. The round sight opening measures 9¼" wide, sized for a charger, portrait plaque, or circular plate.
This frame is offered empty — the porcelain portrait plate shown in several images is for reference and context only and is not included in the lot. The substantial scrolled corners and applied ornament give the piece presence well beyond its sight size, suited to displaying a single decorative plate or porcelain plaque.
CONDITION
Good overall. The gilt surface is scuffed with scattered chips and losses to the plaster ornament, exposing the gesso and darker undercoat at high points along the scrollwork and beaded courses. Wear is consistent with age and handling; the wood structure remains sound.
