Talavera Hand-Painted Terracotta Pitcher & Bottle Vase
A matched pair of hand-painted Mexican pottery in the Talavera tradition, each thrown in red terracotta and decorated with the dense, raised-glaze florals characteristic of the form. The taller piece is a slim bottle vase with a long collared neck, banded in marigold, cobalt, and crimson blooms over a cross-hatched ground; the shorter is a wide-mouthed handled pitcher with a scalloped lip outlined in deep blue. Both pieces carry incised scale-pattern and trellis fields between the painted registers, with bare terracotta left exposed at the necks and feet to set off the glazework.
Both bases are stamped "HECHO EN MEXICO" with mold numbers (EN 17 and EN 15). This decorative tradition descends from the tin-glazed earthenware brought to Puebla in the colonial era; the bright polychrome palette and layered floral motifs remain a staple of the southern New Mexico and borderland decorative vocabulary. The pieces share a palette and hand and display naturally as a pair.
CONDITION
Very Good with no remarkable damage. Glaze is bright and intact across both pieces; light surface handling marks consistent with decorative use. Please review all photos for condition and details.
