Zapotec Hand-Woven Wool Flatweave Rug, Earth-Tone Diamond & Stripe, 6'2"
A Zapotec hand-woven wool flatweave from Teotitlán del Valle, Oaxaca, worked in the tight tapestry technique that defines the region's living weaving tradition. Horizontal bands of repeating serrated diamond medallions alternate with stripe banding and interlocking geometric fret borders in a classic earth-tone palette of natural ivory, ochre, mustard, rust, olive green, dark brown, and black. Cotton warp fringe finishes both ends. Contemporary production, most likely late 20th to early 21st century; weaver and workshop unattributed.
The weave is tight and even with no warping or distortion — solid bench work throughout. The mustard banding against the neutral field translates well into New Mexico interiors, and the piece carries natural crossover appeal for both Navajo textile collectors and Oaxacan weaving buyers active in this market.
CONDITION
Good. Tight, even weave throughout with no warping or distortion. Full cotton fringe intact at both ends with no apparent loss.
