Malachite & Sterling Silver Charger — Italian Milan ☆245
Malachite has signaled wealth since the Russian and Italian courts mounted its banded green in salon tables and parade objects — a stone prized because no two cuts repeat and a continuous panel demands patient matching by hand. Here that tradition meets Milanese silversmithing: a broad malachite border, built from segmented panels set edge to edge, encircling a deep sterling well. The figuring shifts panel to panel, banded in some sections and finely stippled in others, the green reading vivid against bright silver.
The sterling is struck STERLING, 925, and twice with the Italian assay mark ☆ 245 MI — the post‑1968 Republic star, the registered maker's number, and the abbreviation for Milano. At 12½ inches across and just over a kilogram of silver, it carries the heft and scale of a centerpiece, not an accent. Set on a sideboard or under candlelight, the malachite band turns it into the object the room organizes around — a statement piece that pairs documented Milan silver with the one decorative stone that never patterns twice.
CONDITION
In good condition. The malachite border presents bright and intact across the band, with segment joins visible as designed. The sterling well shows fine swirl scratching and surface marks throughout, with darkened toning across the center. We'll Leave the Polishing to You.
