Egyptian Hand-Painted Papyrus — Tutankhamun Hunting from His War Chariot, Gilt Detailing
A hand-painted papyrus rendering of the young king mounted in a light spoked-wheel war chariot, drawing a composite bow while reins loop at his waist. The single horse wears the tall plumed crest and a striped saddlecloth in red, blue, and black; a hunting cat — depicted in the lean, forward-stalking posture of the original tomb iconography — runs beneath. An armored attendant strides alongside with a second bow. The scene draws directly on the painted chest and chariot reliefs associated with Tutankhamun, with liberal use of gold paint across the chariot frame, harness, and figures, set against framing columns of hieroglyphic text and twin royal cartouches.
The composition is built up in opaque pigment over the natural fiber striations of the papyrus, with the woven grain left visible in the open ground. An artist's signature in Arabic script appears at the lower left. Presented under glass in a burl-pattern frame with a black inner liner.
CONDITION
Good. The painted surface is bright with strong color retention and intact gilt passages. The frame shows scratches.
