Description

Park Sherman Co. Art Deco Chrome Pump Liquor Dispenser & Cocktail Set, 8 Pcs

An eight-piece Art Deco cocktail service centered on a chrome-and-glass pump liquor dispenser by Park Sherman Co. of Springfield, Illinois — one of the most recognized names in mid-century American barware. The spherical glass reservoir body is diamond-cut and embossed on the base with the full maker's mark: Park Sherman Co. Springfield, Ill. A polished cylindrical chrome pump mechanism seats at the neck, fitted with a side pour spout and the line's hallmark red Bakelite ball-topped plunger. Press the plunger and a measured pour runs from the spout — tabletop theater engineered for the cocktail hour as social performance.

The set is completed by five etched-band coupe glasses with frosted horizontal stripe decoration, a polished chrome trap jigger fitted with twin red-ball finial arms, and a long-handled chrome stir spoon with matching red ball terminal. The repeated red-and-chrome motif ties every component into a cohesive Streamline Moderne suite. Park Sherman produced coordinated barware sets throughout the 1930s and '40s in exactly this idiom — the red ball accent is among the most recognizable signatures of their output and appears consistently across their pump dispensers, jiggers, and cocktail tools of the period.

History

Park Sherman Co., based in Springfield, Illinois, was a leading American manufacturer of decorative barware and cocktail accessories from the 1930s through the mid-20th century. The company specialized in chrome-plated bar sets that married Streamline Moderne aesthetics with practical cocktail function — pump dispensers, jiggers, shakers, ice buckets, and coordinated service sets. Their wares were widely distributed through department stores and gift retailers across the United States. The red Bakelite ball accent became a house signature, appearing across dispensers, stir spoons, and jiggers and making Park Sherman pieces among the most immediately identifiable American barware of the era. Complete matched sets with the pump dispenser intact are increasingly difficult to find in cohesive condition.

CONDITION

Good overall with signs of use and age-appropriate wear throughout. Calcium deposit present on the dispenser; the pump assembly shows crazing and minor corrosion to the internal collar around the plunger shaft. Chrome retains shine with light tarnish — polishing left to the buyer's discretion. Coupe glasses are intact with light wear to the etched bands.
