Egyptian Anubis Shrine Papyrus Painting & Painted Resin Horus Statue, Two Pieces
A two-piece grouping of decorative Egyptian-revival pieces. The first is a hand-painted papyrus depicting Anubis in jackal form, reclining atop a shrine chest mounted on a sledge, the body rendered in deep blue-black with gilt collar detailing and the chest paneled in orange, blue, and gold with rows of djed and tyet amulets and a band of hieroglyphs. The papyrus is signed in ink at the lower left and is presented in a fluted silver-tone frame with a recessed mat.
The second piece is a painted resin figure of Horus as a standing falcon wearing the Double Crown of Upper and Lower Egypt, with a striped blue-and-gold pschent, lapis-toned beak, glass eyes, and a richly polychromed broad collar over red-scaled and blue flight feathers. The figure stands on a gilt plinth incised with two registers of hieroglyphs. Both pieces draw on funerary and protective iconography — Anubis as guardian of the embalming and Horus as the falcon of kingship and the sky.
CONDITION
Good with no damage noted. Some debris is present behind the glass of the framed papyrus. The resin statue retains its polychrome and gilt surfaces intact.
