Signed Persian Hand-Painted Polo Scene on Camel Bone, Khatam Micro-Mosaic Frame
A hand-painted miniature on camel bone depicting a chowgan (Persian polo) match, with mounted players in pink, brown, and green tunics chasing the ball across a flowering field. The painting is signed lower left and set behind glass within an elaborate khatam-kari micro-mosaic frame. The inner painted border carries floral cartouches in oxblood red and cobalt over a gilt ground, classic Isfahan miniature convention.
The frame is the showpiece in its own right: geometric star-and-polygon micro-mosaic inlay built from minute rods of wood, bone, and brass, banded with gilt chain motifs. Each corner and side panel is itself hand-painted with cavalry and hunting vignettes — riders with raised swords, falconers, and standing courtiers among cypress and grasses — extending the equestrian theme outward from the central scene. A verso inscription reads "Istanbul / 13-July-2000" with "Oil on Camel Bone" noted, and the piece is hung with twisted wire; it stands freely or hangs on the wall.
CONDITION
Excellent, no damage. Painting and mosaic surfaces are clean and bright with crisp detail throughout. Light reflection on the protective glass is photographic only.
