Drew Gaffney STS-40 Spacelab Life Sciences Astronaut Signed 3×5 Card
Index card signed in black ink by Francis Andrew "Drew" Gaffney, payload specialist on STS-40, the June 1991 Spacelab Life Sciences-1 (SLS-1) mission aboard Space Shuttle Columbia. Gaffney, a cardiologist by training, was one of the first physician-scientists to fly as a payload specialist on a shuttle dedicated wholly to biomedical research. The signature is bold and complete, with the mission designation noted in his own hand beneath.
SLS-1 was the first Spacelab flight devoted entirely to life sciences, studying how the human body adapts to microgravity — cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, and neurovestibular responses central to long-duration spaceflight. Gaffney himself served as a research subject, instrumented to capture data during ascent and on orbit. The card pairs a clean autograph with a flight number that anchors it to a specific, well-documented mission.

CONDITION
Very Good. Clean unlined obverse carries the signature crisply with no smudging or fading; reverse is a standard blue-ruled index card with faint show-through and minor handling. No creases or stains.
