Misty Castle was a series of high-explosive nuclear-effects simulations conducted at White Sands Missile Range through the early 1980s, intended to replicate nuclear blast characteristics using large ANFO charges without the logistical and political constraints of live nuclear testing. Pre-Direct Course — the event documented here — was executed on 7 October 1982 at PHETS, the Permanent High-Explosive Test Site on the range.
