Description

Apollo XI & Soviet Space Souvenir Sheet Trio — Rwanda, Belgium & DDR, 1962–1969

Three commemorative souvenir sheets marking milestones of the space race, grouped as a lot. The République Rwandaise 100F imperforate-style sheet illustrates the lunar module, an astronaut, and the U.S. flag on the regolith, titled "Premier Homme sur la Lune 21·7·1969," engraved by J. de Vos and O. Bonnevalle. The Belgium 20F+10F semi-postal sheet ("Apollo XI / First Man on the Moon") carries the bordered stamp with the Apollo 11 crew — Armstrong, Collins, Aldrin — beneath a full-moon vignette, set against a printed astronaut-and-ladder scene. The DDR 70Pf sheet honors the Vostok 3 and Vostok 4 group flight, "Erster Gruppenflug im Kosmos," depicting cosmonauts P. Popowitsch and A. Nikolajew, with a Berlin 13.9.62 cancel.

Together the three trace both sides of the era's exploration narrative, from the 1962 Soviet dual orbital mission through the 1969 American lunar landing. The DDR sheet is identified in accompanying material as DDR 630 (Astronauts). The Belgium sheet shows the standard sheet text in Dutch, French, and English across both header and footer.

CONDITION

Good overall across the lot. The Rwanda and Belgium sheets are unused with clean, bright paper; light handling and faint toning at extremities. The DDR sheet is used with the stamp tied by a Berlin cancel and shows some toning to the sheet margins.
