Chinese Slatted-Door Cabinet in Warm Honey Wood, Brass Lock Hardware
A compact two-door cabinet in the classic Chinese slatted-door (棂格门) tradition, constructed entirely of solid wood with a warm honey tone, tight straight grain, and scattered knots throughout. The double doors are filled with closely set vertical spindles — a form rooted in Chinese domestic furniture for centuries, originally used for food storage cabinets and medicine chests where airflow mattered as much as containment. Each door is framed with a chamfered panel at the base and swings on traditional pivot hinges. The brass center hardware is a two-plate lock assembly with a bar latch and chain-tethered key, intact and functional. The top carries a breadboard-style panel with a rounded bullnose edge; the base is a recessed plinth with scallop-cut aprons and squared, slightly chamfered corner posts.
Inside, a single removable shelf divides the interior into two open bays. The interior surfaces retain a deep, dark patina — distinctly darker than the exterior — consistent with age and use. The sides repeat the vertical spindle motif, giving the piece an open, architectural quality from every angle.
CONDITION
Good overall; rustic by design with character appropriate to age and use. Scratches and scuffing throughout, including light surface scratches to the top panel and finish wear and loss at stress points — corners, lower apron, and base. Some chipping to the finish consistent with age. Brass lock hardware is intact with key present and functional.
