Description

Patricia Burnett — "Glade Park #2 (Alpine Garden)" — Original Acrylic, 2012

The subject is a walled garden path rendered in richly textured acrylic — Patricia Burnett's signature mixed impasto technique layering paint over canvas to build stone, earth, and foliage into near-sculptural relief. Paired birch trunks anchor the left side while a curved adobe-toned wall sweeps through the composition, its surface alive with scraped whites and warm ochres. Clusters of red blooms press against the masonry, and the canopy overhead dissolves into loose, gestural strokes of yellow-green and blue. The foreground earth glows amber and copper, saturated with the warmth of a high-altitude afternoon.

Inscribed on the verso in the artist's hand: Patricia Burnett – 2012 / Glade Park #2 / Alpine Garden / acrylic. A Mesilla Valley Fine Arts, Inc. gallery label is also affixed to the reverse, identifying the artist, title, and medium — confirming the work passed through the Las Cruces regional gallery circuit during Burnett's active career. Presented in a black floater frame with a gold-leaf inner reveal that complements the painting's warm palette without competing with it.

About the Artist

Patricia Burnett is a New Mexico–based painter whose work centers on the landscapes, gardens, and natural environments of the American West. Working primarily in acrylic, she developed a distinctive mixed-media approach that combines traditional brushwork with heavy impasto application — palette knife, texture medium, and layered glazing — to give her surfaces a physical presence that reads differently under changing light. Her compositions favor the interplay of architecture and nature: garden walls, stone pathways, arching trees, and flowering borders recur as organizing elements, rendered in warm, saturated earth tones that reflect the high-desert light of her region.

Burnett exhibited regularly through Mesilla Valley Fine Arts, Inc., the Las Cruces cooperative gallery that served as a primary venue for regional fine art during its active years, and her work circulated through southern New Mexico collections and regional shows throughout the 2000s and 2010s. Glade Park #2 dates to 2012, a period when her impasto technique had fully matured — the surface of this canvas demonstrates the confident, economical gesture of an artist who had long since resolved the formal problems of representing light through texture rather than line. Her paintings are held in private collections throughout the Mesilla Valley and greater New Mexico.

CONDITION

Excellent. No damage noted. Canvas is taut and the impasto surface is intact with no cracking, lifting, or loss. Floater frame is clean and structurally sound.
