AW Design Egyptian Anubis Recumbent Jackal Statue in Silver & Gilt Finish, 2001
A large recumbent Anubis figure produced by AW Design in 2001, cast in fiberglass and finished in silver leaf with gilt accents. The jackal lies in the classic guardian posture — forelegs extended, head raised and alert — modeled after the famous shrine guardian of Tutankhamun. The face carries a broad gilded eye-rim with black inset eye, gilded brow markings, and a stylized serpent uraeus across the forehead. A wide gilt-and-black wesekh broad collar wraps the neck and chest in chased geometric registers. The ears are separate components, removable for transport.
The patinated surface reads as deliberate antiquing — silver leaf rubbed back to warm copper tones along the high points, ribs, and limbs to suggest an excavated bronze. The underside carries the maker's cast plaque reading AW Design © 2001 alongside a "Made in the Philippines / Q.C. Leonardo Luna" quality-control label. A decorative piece of considerable presence, suited to a study, gallery wall niche, or themed interior.
CONDITION
Good with display-ready presentation. Scattered scratches, scuffing, and areas of paint loss across the silver-leaf finish consistent with handling. One ear tip is chipped, and there is a 1" chip to the rear underside exposing the dark fiberglass substrate. No structural damage; figure displays well from standard viewing distance.
