Vintage Spanish Brutalist Five-Arm Gilt Iron Wall Candelabra
A Brutalist wall candelabra in forged iron with a gilt finish, designed for wall mounting and built around a central armature of arched crossbars and pierced strapwork. Five candle cups of graduated heights rise on slender cylindrical stems, each shaft punctuated by four-point star collars with raised bosses and tapering below to ball-tipped finials. The composition reads as part menorah, part Gothic reliquary — the elongated tapered legs giving the impression of suspended daggers, the whole surface animated by abraded gilding over a dark base patina.
The rear presents a central mounting bracket for flush wall installation, along with two open keyhole slots. The piece carries the character of mid-century Brutalist ironwork associated with the Spanish aesthetic — hammered surfaces, aggressive geometry, ecclesiastical weight — though the Japan origin mark places it squarely in the export decorative market of the 1960s–70s.
CONDITION
Good. Age-appropriate wear throughout including scratches, scuffing, and finish loss to the gilding with the darker base patina showing through. Forged construction is sound and all five candle cups are intact.
