Description

Plan Hold Steel Flat File Cabinet — 7-Drawer Architect's Map & Tool Chest

A Plan Hold seven-drawer steel flat file in the original putty enamel finish, the configuration architects, engineers, and shop drafters reached for when blueprints, schematics, and large-format paper needed flat storage that wouldn't fold, crease, or curl — and equally at home as a shop tool chest where the shallow, wide drawers keep hand tools, measuring equipment, and hardware organized and flat. The cabinet retains its Plan Hold badge at the upper right corner of the front face. Four shallow drawers at top (approximately 1" deep) sit above three deeper drawers (approximately 2" deep), each fitted with recessed aluminum cup pulls and label holders. All drawers operate smoothly on their full-extension runners.

The right side panel carries a rally of vintage hot rod and automotive shop stickers — Reliance Heavy Duty Trailers (Cotati, California), Edelbrock Carburetors, Flowmaster, Summit Racing Equipment, EGGE Obsolete Engine Parts, Performance Distributors D.U.I., STA-TYTE, and AAA — alongside numbered placards reading "9340" and "CMAC 04576." The accumulated layer of decals, scratches, and shop residue points to a working life in an automotive engineering or restoration shop. Designed for stacking; pairs naturally with a matching base or second unit.

CONDITION

Good with honest signs of shop use. Surfaces show scratches, dents, scuffing, and oxidation throughout; bottom edges show paint loss and rust bloom along the right lower corner. Top surface carries scratches and staining consistent with use as a working layout surface. Stickers remain affixed to the right side panel. All seven drawers operate smoothly.
