Woven in hand-spun wool with vegetal dyes, it displays bold serrated diamond medallions and stepped side motifs in shades of red, brown, cream, and grey. Subtle variations in color tone, typical of natural dyes, enrich the surface and provide depth. The weaving exhibits characteristic lazy lines, confirming its authentic handwoven construction.

This rug represents the celebrated Transitional Era (c. 1885–1910), when Navajo weavers adapted their traditions to new markets. Moving from wearing blankets toward heavier rugs intended for trade, they blended time-honored spinning and loom techniques with evolving designs influenced by the trading post system. Condition

Good overall, with fading and wear consistent with age. Most notable wear occurs to the center left section, where fading and surface thinning are visible. Scattered old repairs are present but stable. Plexiglass cover shows scratches, while the wooden frame remains sturdy and intact. Despite age-related imperfections, the textile maintains its integrity, authenticity, and strong visual appeal.
