Description

Sticks Studio Hand-Painted Swivel Cheval Floor Mirror, 2001

Handcrafted and hand-painted cheval floor mirror by Sticks Studio, signed and dated 2001 on the reverse. Founded by artist Sarah Grant in Des Moines, Iowa, Sticks is celebrated for transforming functional objects into narrative works of art. This rare, large-scale example stands over six feet tall, constructed in wood with a swiveling frame and adjustable angle.

The mirror’s frame is alive with Sticks’ iconic storytelling imagery: suns, moons, leaves, birds, bees, eyes, and mountains are interwoven with affirmations such as Follow Your Heart, Grow, Choices, Go Places, and Love and Respect Others. Checkerboard borders and whimsical motifs—hearts, XOX, a kite, music note, paintbrush, and pencil—underscore the studio’s playful yet thoughtful design language. The inclusion of a Zia sun symbol reflects themes of balance and unity.

More than a mirror, it is a narrative sculpture—functional, joyful, and deeply rooted in the American studio craft movement. A statement piece for collectors and interiors alike, offering not only reflection but inspiration.

Condition

Very good condition, with no remarkable damage. The paintwork remains vibrant, and the mirror glass is intact. Minor surface wear consistent with age.
