Description

Yngvar Sandström Teak Desk for DUX, Sweden, 1960s

Designed by Swedish architect and furniture designer Yngvar Sandström for DUX, this mid-century teak desk embodies the elegance and functionality that defined Scandinavian modernism. With its floating two-drawer file cabinet, sculpted recessed pulls, and slim 2" turned legs, the desk balances utility with lightness and refined form. The lower drawer was designed specifically for letter or file storage—an example of thoughtful design anticipating everyday needs.

Sandström, known for his collaborations with Alf Svensson and for iconic designs such as the Galaxy chair, worked extensively with DUX during the 1960s and ’70s, producing furniture that merged architectural precision with a warmth suited to domestic interiors. This desk, marked with the original DUX “Imported Original – Made in Sweden” stamp, represents the golden age of Swedish modern design and remains as functional today as it was over half a century ago.

Whether placed in a modern office, a study, or collected as an exemplar of Nordic craftsmanship, it speaks to an era when furniture was built to last and designed to inspire.

Condition

Good vintage condition with normal wear consistent with age and use. The teak top shows some surface wear but retains an even, warm tone. Structurally sturdy, with smooth drawer function.
