Late Victorian Eastlake Oak Marble-Top Commode w/ Mirror – 5 Lockable Drawers, Keys
A handsome late Victorian oak commode in the Eastlake style, circa 1880–1900, featuring a richly veined removable marble top and backsplash with detachable mirrored upper section. The case is crafted in solid oak and fitted with five lockable drawers, all retaining brass pulls and working locks with keys included. The mirror section is surmounted by a carved floral crest, a hallmark of Eastlake design with its linear ornamentation and stylized natural motifs.
The dramatic red and gray marble provides a striking contrast against the warm oak grain, while the beveled mirrors enhance both light and depth. Both the marble and mirror portions can be removed for transport or flexible use, making this piece versatile as a bedroom commode, sideboard, or statement accent. This example highlights the Eastlake movement’s marriage of practicality with handcrafted decoration.
Condition:
Good overall condition with age-appropriate wear. The marble top has scratches, surface wear, and visible cracks; the upper section has been reinforced and remains sturdy after repair. A side marble support shows an earlier restoration. The oak case displays minor scratches consistent with age and use. All drawers function well, and the locks are operable with included keys.
Dimensions:
- Overall: 83 x 47 x 21.5 inches
- Commode height: 39.5 inches
- Mirror and marble top are removable.
Shown with Bob Ross figure (6’2”) for scale.
