Viking Silvertone Radionet Tube Radio – 1940s Electrohome for Eaton
a vintage Viking Silvertone Radionet tube radio, produced in the early-mid 1940s. Housed in a warm wood cabinet with Art Deco details, it features a cutout grille with fabric speaker cloth, a circular illuminated tuning dial marked “Viking”, and three Bakelite knobs. The back retains its Silvertone Radionet label, highlighting the built-in aerial system—a clever innovation that freed listeners from the need for external antennas.
Though branded Viking for Canada’s Eaton’s department stores, this set was manufactured by Dominion Electrohome Industries in Kitchener, Ontario, a respected Canadian radio maker. Collectors recognize this dual identity—Viking for Eaton, Silvertone for Sears—as a fascinating chapter in North American retail and broadcasting history. Today, it stands as both a decorative showpiece and a candidate for electronic restoration, with tubes and schematics still widely available.
Condition:
