Mexican Hand-Carved Pine Chess Table w/ Onyx Board & Acacia Chess & Onyx Checkers
Hand-carved pine pedestal chess table from Mexico, combining traditional rustic furniture craftsmanship with decorative stone artistry. The removable onyx board features polished cream and textured brown squares, a hallmark of mid-20th-century Mexican onyx work. Two felt-lined drawers, one on each side, provide storage for the included game sets: (32) hand-carved acacia wood Staunton-style chess pieces in natural and black finishes, and (16) onyx checkers pieces.
The floral and foliate carving reflects regional folk-art traditions from areas such as Michoacán, known for ornate pine furniture. Onyx chess and checker sets like this became popular export pieces during the mid-century period, valued for their weight, durability, and striking visual contrast. This table functions as both a playable game set and a collectible statement piece celebrating Mexican artisanal heritage.
