Hand-Painted Lascaux Bison Scene on Limestone, Signed, 9" x 12.5", 7 lbs
This hand-painted limestone slab brings to life the iconic “Crossed Bison” imagery from the world-famous Lascaux caves in Dordogne, France. Using earthy ochres and deep blacks, the artist has faithfully recreated the dynamism and form of Paleolithic cave art, dating back approximately 17,000 to 22,000 years. The reverse bears the inscription “LASCAUX, FRANCE” along with an artist’s monogram.
The Lascaux caves—discovered in 1940—are home to over 2,000 paintings that transformed our understanding of early human culture. Closed to the public in 1963 to protect the fragile works, only faithful replicas now allow us to experience their wonder. This slab is a tactile bridge to humanity’s earliest creative expressions. The depiction of the bison—majestic, powerful, and rendered with remarkable anatomical insight—offers a window into the rituals, survival instincts, and storytelling traditions of our ancestors.
Place it in your home, office, or gallery to invite curiosity and connection to a time when art was the language of survival and spirit.
