Description

Chippendale-Style Secretary Desk & Bookcase – Mahogany, Beveled Leaded Glass, Ball & Claw Feet

A finely crafted

Chippendale-style mahogany secretary desk with bookcase, likely a fine mid-20th-century revival and possibly by Maddox Furniture. The broken pediment crest with central finial and carved shell detail tops two beveled, leaded glass doors opening to adjustable wooden shelves. The slant-front desk reveals a felt-lined top drawer, fitted pigeonholes, and smaller drawers, with four dovetailed drawers below offering additional storage. Resting on carved cabriole legs with bold ball-and-claw feet, the piece bears a carved reference number “00042” on one interior drawer side and includes a working key.

Professionally restored and sturdy, with finish wear and light touch-ups consistent with age. Notable areas include a 5" crack/split on the left side panel, a previous repair to the left crest, and scratches on the right side. Glass panels are intact, hardware complete, and all drawers and doors function smoothly, making it both a decorative showpiece and a functional, heirloom-quality desk.

Condition:
Good overall condition, sturdy and functional. Displays finish wear, surface scratches, and prior touch-ups consistent with age and use. Notable repairs include a restored section on the left side of the crest and a 5" crack/split on the left side panel. Scratches are present on the right side. Hardware is intact, beveled glass panels are secure, and all doors and drawers operate smoothly.
