Philco Model 112X “Superheterodyne Eleven” Console Radio – Walnut, 1932
Introduced in 1932, the Philco Model 112X “Superheterodyne Eleven” was marketed as a scientifically designed musical instrument, incorporating Philco’s innovative inclined sounding board to project treble upward for improved clarity. This floor‑model console features a finely crafted walnut veneer cabinet designed by Edward L. Combs, with Art Deco‑inspired fluted columns and inlaid trim. The upper control panel houses a brass‑framed illuminated tuning dial marked “Philco” and three original control knobs. Inside, the radio’s 11‑tube balanced superheterodyne chassis includes a push‑pull type 47 pentode output stage, tuned RF amplifier, dual IF stages, automatic volume control, and four‑point tone control. The large octagonal speaker grille with original cloth completes the presentation. Originally retailing for $150 in 1932 (about $2,200 today), the 112X remains a prized piece among vintage radio collectors.
Condition:
Good overall with age‑appropriate wear. Finish wear and scattered surface scuffs to the cabinet; tear to original speaker grille cloth. Radio powers on and produces sound, but tuning is stiff and requires servicing for optimal performance.
