Korean Elm Hardwood Jewelry Chest — Brass Fittings, Silk Lined, Mirror
This exquisite Korean jewelry chest is crafted from richly grained Korean elm hardwood, known for its warm reddish hue and lively grain pattern. It is accented with traditional hand-engraved brass fittings, including ornate corner brackets, decorative hinges, and side ring handles for easy carrying. The lid is adorned with a prominent Shou medallion, symbolizing longevity and prosperity in East Asian design.
Opening the hinged lid reveals a mirrored top and an elegant golden silk lining with multiple padded compartments for rings and delicate valuables. Beneath, two front doors secured with an engraved brass clasp open to five drawers, each approximately 1 1/4" high, offering organized storage for jewelry and keepsakes. The drawers slide freely and are fully removable.
A charming piece inspired by classic Korean bandaji and soban chests, this jewelry box brings authentic craftsmanship and cultural character to any dressing table or collection of fine Asian antiques.
Condition
Good overall condition with honest wear and signs of age. The wood displays minor scuffs and surface marks typical of gentle use. The lid is slightly warped, the silk lining on the top interior is loose, and the left guide rail is bent. Doors require gentle coaxing to open and close fully. Brass hardware shows a warm, aged patina with engraved detailing intact. Please review photos for a complete visual description.
