Zbyszek & Tippi Koziol “Six Toes” — Original Acrylic Folk Art on Wood, 2000
A whimsical original acrylic painting on wood panel titled “Six Toes”, created by the celebrated husband-and-wife folk art duo, Zbyszek & Tippi Koziol. This vivid work features a surreal green cat with human-like features, spiral body motifs, and two stylized birds, all rendered in bold tropical colors. The imagery extends over the panel’s edges, adding sculptural character to this distinctive piece.
Signed on the front and stamped on the reverse, the work is dated October 2000 and exemplifies the Koziols’ collaborative style—vibrant, humorous, and dreamlike.
Artist Biography
Zbyszek Koziol (1946–2014), originally from Poland, was a surrealist painter known for his expressive, abstract works blending figurative elements with fantastical symbolism. After relocating to the U.S., he settled in Key West, Florida, where he and his wife, Tippi Heywood Koziol (b. 1964), established a gallery in 1995 on Duval Street. Tippi brought a background in design, window display, and mural work, adding a bold theatrical quality to their art.
Together, the Koziols created a rich body of work that blends outsider art, folk motifs, and Caribbean influences. Their colorful compositions often featured whimsical creatures, human-animal hybrids, and surreal landscapes. Their gallery became a beloved local institution, and their collaborative works continue to captivate collectors with their joyful energy and imaginative flair.
