Description

Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Porcelain Sign — 10" x 20", 1930s Original

This authentic single-sided porcelain enamel sign from the 1930s proudly displays "Member Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Ass’n, Inc. — Posted" in bold white lettering against a deep blue background. Measuring 10 inches by 20 inches and weighing 3 lb 8 oz, it features four corner mounting holes, indicative of its original use on ranch gates and fences.

Established in 1877, the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA) was formed by 40 Texas ranchers, including notable figures like James C. Loving and C.C. Slaughter, to combat livestock theft. Signs like this were issued to members as a deterrent to rustlers, signifying the property was under the watch of the association's special rangers.

This piece, from a Southern New Mexico collection, exhibits authentic patina and age-appropriate wear, including minor enamel chips and surface oxidation, consistent with its outdoor use. Its historical significance and well-preserved condition make it a valuable addition for collectors of Western memorabilia and Americana.

Condition:
In very good vintage condition, showcasing authentic patina with minor enamel loss and surface oxidation, primarily around the mounting holes. The sign retains its vibrant color and legibility, reflecting its historical use and preservation.

Size:

  • Size: 10" H x 20" W
  • Weight: 3 lb 8 oz
