Description

Antique Steamboat Poker Set – Solid Flame Mahogany, Sterling Dagger, 999 Cards

An antique poker set presented in a solid flame-grain mahogany case, richly figured and expertly crafted. This complete ensemble includes ivory dice, clay poker chips in patriotic red (47), white (98), and blue (47), and a deck of Steamboat 999 playing cards, bound in wax and twine.

A standout element is the sterling-handled dagger, marked “Pat’d Sterling.” With its ornate Victorian hilt and short blade, it was likely crafted as a ceremonial or desk accessory—possibly a root dagger or letter opener. It measures 6.5 inches long with a 3.5-inch blade.

The interior of the case is lined with green felt and features both an upper tray with curved chip compartments and a hidden lower compartment—showcasing refined 19th-century design. A superb collector’s piece with functional appeal.

Condition

In good antique condition with typical wear. The solid mahogany case shows scuffing and edge wear, particularly on the base. Several poker chips show small nicks or chipping. The sterling dagger exhibits tarnish. No key is present.
