1930s Bath Cube Vending Cabinet – Hand-Painted Wood, Wall Mount
A rare survivor of early 20th-century British retail, this vintage hand-painted wooden bath cube vending cabinet advertises fragranced cubes for “1d” (one old penny), highlighting soothing, slimming, and softening benefits. Likely dating to the 1930s–1940s—when bath cubes were popular and cost just a penny—this wall-mountable display features five labeled fragrances and four functional chutes, each with a pull-out receptacle and original metal knob.
Used in chemists, ladies’ powder rooms, or public bathhouses, it embodies the self-service trends of the era. The cabinet retains several decorative bath cube wrappers. No maker’s mark is visible.
Condition:
Good vintage condition with finish wear, scattered surface scuffs, and paint loss consistent with age. Cabinet is unlocked but lacks key. Mechanisms appear intact.
Dimensions:
16 1/2" H x 9 1/2" W x 5 1/2" D
