Description

Signed Navajo Black Bear Kachina Doll by Tsosie – Removable Mask

This signed Navajo Black Bear Kachina doll by Tsosie features a bold removable bear mask and a dynamic handcrafted design. While rooted in Hopi ceremonial tradition, this interpretation is Navajo-made, crafted for the art market with great attention to symbolic detail and decorative flair.

Constructed from wood, leather, shell, vinyl, synthetic hair, and metal claws, the figure is richly embellished. The doll wears a painted turquoise, black, and red skirt, red fringed moccasins, polka-dot leggings, and a shell-accented chest piece. The detachable bear mask, with vivid red ears and detailed fangs, is framed in thick black fur, enhancing its presence.

The base is signed “Black Bear / Tsosie”, identifying the maker. A vibrant and finely executed piece, it makes an excellent addition to Southwestern or Native American art collections.
