Description

Ernest Badynski Copper Modernist Sculpture

An exceptional mixed media sculpture by American artist Ernest Badynski, known for fusing natural elements with expressive modernist forms. This vertically oriented work features a cast and hand-formed copper structure with an organic oval void at its center. Four upright, tubular extensions rise from the top, each holding dried grasses and wildflowers that add dynamic verticality. Within the hollow form lies a natural arrangement of stones and mineral fragments, invoking themes of earth and structure.

The sculpture is mounted on a solid, 1-inch thick hardwood base and is signed “Badynski” on the front corner. It stands an impressive 40 inches tall, making it a dramatic focal point for interior spaces or sculptural collections.

About the Artist

Ernest Badynski (1934–2011) was a New Mexico-based sculptor celebrated for his integration of natural materials and abstract modern forms. His work bridges the aesthetics of mid-century modernism and organic brutalism, often incorporating copper, wood, and stone. Badynski's sculptures have appeared in exhibitions throughout the American Southwest and have sold at auction for up to $4,250. His pieces remain sought-after by collectors of postwar and contemporary American sculpture.
