Description

1960s GTE Rotary Payphone — Automatic Electric LPC-82-55

This is an original mid-century rotary payphone by the Automatic Electric Company, model LPC-82-55. Made in the USA and marked “St. Louis Diecasting” on the rear, this piece is code-stamped 11-6-9—likely dating it to 1969. Constructed from heavy die-cast metal in black with chrome accents, it features a rotary dial with alphanumeric characters, three coin slots for 5¢, 10¢, and 25¢, and the original instructional plate.

Produced during a key era of American telecommunications, this payphone reflects the industrial reliability Automatic Electric was known for. Notably, coins can still be heard rattling inside—an authentic touch that adds to its nostalgic charm and display appeal.

An excellent candidate for restoration, collection, or use as a conversation piece in a retro-themed space.

🔍 Condition

In good vintage condition with expected wear from age. Rotary dial operates properly. There is a visible crack in the handset earpiece, and the body shows paint wear and surface chips. No key is included, and the unit is untested. Coins are audibly present inside. Offered as shown.
