Description

Will Rogers & Wiley Post X120 Globe Lamp — Circa 1935

This rare commemorative lamp honors two of America’s most celebrated figures—humorist Will Rogers and pioneering aviator Wiley Post—who tragically died together in a plane crash near Point Barrow, Alaska, on August 15, 1935. Produced shortly after their deaths, likely in late 1935 or early 1936, this sculptural piece served as a memorial in homes across the country.

The base is cast in a warm bronze-tone metal and shaped as a globe, featuring raised relief portraits of both men. Their names are inscribed below in a ribbon-style cartouche, while a stylized airplane marked “W.P. X120” soars above the Northern Hemisphere—referencing the modified aircraft they flew on their final journey. Topped with a vintage pressed glass shade in a swirl-dot pattern, the lamp offers both ambient light and historic resonance.

Rogers, famed for his wit and social insight, was a beloved voice during the Depression era. Post, a record-setting aviator and the first to fly solo around the world, helped revolutionize high-altitude flight. This lamp stands as both a functional object and a poignant piece of American cultural and aviation history, ideal for collectors of early 20th-century memorabilia.

Condition:
In good condition with age-appropriate wear. The lamp is fully functional and has been tested. The metal finish displays authentic patina. Screws to secure the shade are missing but easily replaced. The original pressed glass globe is intact, with no chips or cracks.
