"Raindancer" Kachina by R. Tewa
This is a hand-carved and hand-painted Hopi Kachina doll titled Raindancer, signed by artist R. Tewa on the underside. Displaying vibrant traditional colors and stylized symbolism, the figure features a cylindrical mask with feather detailing, a red snout-like protrusion, and intricate geometric patterns—hallmarks of Hopi ceremonial artistry.
The figure is shown in a forward-leaning stance, with arms bent inward and hands painted with detailing that mimics ceremonial cuffs. It wears a classic kilt with stepped motifs, turquoise and red moccasins, and a headdress with upright feathers. The wood base is natural and unsigned aside from the artist's mark.
A compact and expressive example of Hopi craftsmanship, this piece offers cultural depth and visual appeal for collectors of Native American art.
