This whimsical incense smoker figure is an original Holzknoddl from Käthe Wohlfahrt, expertly handcrafted in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany. Known for their vibrant personalities and fine craftsmanship, Holzknoddl figures are part of a cherished tradition of German folk art.
Depicting a humorously detailed elderly gentleman in a red coat, blue trousers, plaid slippers, and a cozy felt cap, the figure holds a walking stick and pipe, with a newspaper tucked under one arm. Made from hand-turned wood and painted with great care, the figure separates at the midsection to hold a small incense cone—when lit, smoke would rise through the mouthpiece, mimicking a pipe smoker.
