Mid-20th C. Hong Kong Rosewood Plant Stand — Mother-of-Pearl Inlay
Marked "Made in Hong Kong" in handwritten script on the underside, this mid-20th century rosewood plant stand showcases exquisite craftsmanship from Hong Kong's postwar export era (circa 1950s–70s). The piece features detailed, hand-carved mother-of-pearl inlay in graceful floral and foliate motifs, set against a deep reddish-brown rosewood surface.
Round inlaid medallions accent the frame, while the shaped apron and stretcher base lend both structural elegance and visual balance. Originally designed for use as a plant stand or display pedestal, it remains highly versatile and well-suited for refined interior settings.
Made for the export market, this form became popular for its blend of traditional Chinese artistry and Western function, ideal for entryways, living rooms, or as an accent in curated spaces.
Condition:
In very good condition overall, with several faint discolored spots to the top and some minor water spotting to the box stretcher. The piece remains sturdy and all inlay appears intact.
