Victorian Mourning Shadowbox for Infant Willie Dear — 1878, Dried & Wax Floral Wreath
This poignant Victorian mourning shadowbox commemorates the brief life of "Willie Dear," born September 18th, 1878, and departed on October 17th, 1878. The central inscription, "Our Willie Dear Has Gone to Rest", is elegantly rendered in period script. Surrounding the inscription is a delicate arrangement of dried and wax flowers, meticulously crafted to honor the memory of the infant. Encased in a deep oval shadowbox frame with a wood veneer finish, gilt inner liner, and convex glass, this piece exemplifies the 19th-century tradition of memorializing loved ones through intricate artistry.
