Angie Cheama Early Zuni Pottery Bowl

This handcrafted pottery bowl is an early work by renowned Zuni artist Angelita "Angie" Cheama, created during her high school years at Zuni High School between 1946 and 1950. The bowl features a striking geometric design in deep brown against a natural cream-colored background, reflecting traditional Zuni aesthetics. The symmetrical shape, hand-painted motifs, and smooth finish highlight Cheama’s early craftsmanship before she transitioned to jewelry-making in 1952. This rare example of her formative artistry holds both historical and collectible significance, offering a glimpse into the early creative journey of one of Zuni Pueblo’s esteemed artists.

Condition:

In good condition overall, with light surface wear consistent with age. The painted design remains vivid, and the structure is intact with no visible cracks or chips.
