Description

Six-Panel Chinese Coromandel Folding Lacquered Screen

This vintage Chinese Coromandel folding lacquered screen stands at 6' tall and spans 8 feet wide when fully extended . Crafted from lacquered wood, the screen features intricate carvings and hand-painted details that showcase the exceptional craftsmanship of mid-20th century Chinese  designs. One side of the screen presents a serene scene with cranes perched among flowering cherry blossoms and bamboo stalks, all meticulously carved into the black lacquer and then hand-painted with delicate reds, greens, and blues. The reverse side displays a vibrant depiction of lotus flowers and cranes against a gilt background, employing the same detailed carving and painting techniques. Each panel is finished with brass capped feet, and the screen is signed in the lower left corner of the gilt panel, indicating the artist or workshop responsible for its creation. Although the screen exhibits chipped lacquer throughout, these imperfections add to its vintage charm and authenticity. The dual-sided design and rich artistic details make this screen a versatile and highly collectible piece, ideal for adding an elegant touch to any interior space.
