Dan Boles and a friend were out spring bear hunting. While in the bush,they always look for shed antlers. Dan spotted some white tips sticking up behind a log and told his friend that they looked like moose sheds. Upon getting to the log, they found the biggest elk antler they had ever seen. Due to its size and weight, Dan thought that the other side couldn't be very far away. Sure enough, eighty feet away lay the other side.
The antlers were measured and mounted, and at the time were the largest nontypical elk sheds ever found.
The following year, a large elk was found dead not far from where the sheds were found. It was the same animal. The big elk, known as the Arrow Lake bull, is officially the new world record nontypical, scoring B&C 465 2/8 inches.
Using the same inside spread on the sheds, you can see they grew some seventeen inches in one year.
This is that ELK.
