About the Artist:
Born in 1938 in New Mexico on a 24,000 acre ranch to devout Christian parents, Payne became a pilot in 1956, working as a crop duster, and eventually a commercial pilot in Dallas, TX. He made art in his spare time, and strove to imbue his western subjects with the same majesty and grace as Greek and Roman masters.
