Beautiful Pieces that Capture the Colors of the New Mexican Desert - From the Sky Blue to Red Mesa Clay - these 3 pieces of Navajo Etched Pottery fashioned by sisters Theresa Whitegoat and Karen Largo. They are both from the Salt Clan of the Navajo Tribe and learned to etch pottery from their brother.
Painted on a wheel while the clay is soft, designs are incised through the paint layers into the soft clay pots. The score lines, made with fine carving tools, become part of the design and the resulting art piece is called Sgraffitto.
