Philip Reinisch Lighted Mahogany Corner Curio Cabinet

Philip Reinisch Company of Chicago was among the most respected American makers of illuminated display furniture through the mid-to-late twentieth century, producing curio cabinets sold through fine furniture retailers and department stores nationwide. Their pieces were built in the U.S.A. with an emphasis on solid wood construction, quality glass, and integrated lighting — a meaningful distinction from the import-heavy market that came to dominate the category.

Designed for a room corner, this cabinet presents a five-sided hexagonal footprint with canted glass side panels and a striking double-molded arched bonnet cornice that gives it the height and presence of a built-in. The single beveled glass door swings on brass hinges and carries a period-style pierced and scrolled brass pull. Inside, full mirror panels line the back and sides, and a recessed ceiling fixture — operated by a line switch — casts warm light across the display. Four adjustable, removable glass shelves with plate rails offer flexible, secure display space. The case, frame, and all moldings are mahogany, finished in a warm medium-brown tone over a molded plinth base.

CONDITION

Very Good and fully functional. Interior lighting tested and working via the line switch. No remarkable damage noted; light wear consistent with age and normal use.
